Love Song is a reinvention of Clive Walley’s film of the same name.
There are two versions of Love Song, one for live performance and one for distribution with the film in traditional formats.
An anthropomorphic interpretation of the original film is developed in an ‘in-between’ sort of cinematic-musical space.
I wanted to create a piece of work within which abstract phenomenological and anthropomorphic qualities of the animation were sonically developed, forming the basis of an abstract experiential, internalisation of a love song.
During this process objects in many of the layers of the film developed new or reinvented significances, vectoring the viewer/listener into a web of new negotiable meanings.
Several film related concerns were brought into consideration and developed within the relationship between flat, digitized image & localised, environmental sound.
Of these, I was particularly interested in metaphorical ideas of movement within, in-between and around the film's apparatus (still image, frame, music (measure, recorded, processed, manipulated sound, speech, music etc.), performers, computers, digital systems) within which the ‘in-between’ cinema-music could be experienced.
